The Hearts and Help Project.
I'm Liam - currently a Life Scout with Troop 770 in Centennial, CO. The goal of my Eagle Scout project is to create 100–150 mental health toolkits for Douglas County First Responders. The toolkits will contain resources and objects that can assist in real-time on a call, serving children, teens, and adults with national and local mental health resources such as the 988 Suicide Prevention Lifeline, Safe2Tell Denver, and 911 emergency services.
Each toolkit will be compact and portable, designed to fit into squad vehicles or mobile response units, and will include enough materials to assist with multiple emergency calls. A backstock of supplies will also be created to allow law enforcement to easily restock kits when needed.
Resources and items to be included within each box, tailored by age range:
Ages 5-11: Resource card referring Safe2Tell and other resources, fidget toys, coloring books, stickers, etc.
Ages 12-17 (Teen Cards) : Resource cards to include Safe2Tell, Crisis Hot Line and words of encouragement. Items include journals, stickers, pens, fidget toys, and the like.
18+ (Adult) cards will focus on issues like substance abuse and urgent mental health concerns., journals, pens, stress balls and other anxiety-reducing objects.
While my goal is to provide at least 100-150 boxes to the Douglas County Sheriff's office, with your help and support, I am hoping to expand distribution to schools, community centers, and other emergency responders.
This project aims to provide lasting support for individuals facing anxiety, depression, PTSD, BPD, and other mental health challenges, helping Sheriffs and First Responders better assist those in need.
